Going green is now seen as a critical path in today’s world. One key aspect we often hear in the modern green movement is sustainability. We often hear that
sustainability “is about jobs” or saving jobs by saving on operating costs and thereby making companies sustainable.

Our U.S. Federal government is expanding and has been for decades. Just look at Washington D.C Real Estate growth over the last 20 years and projections for the next 20 years and it is clear, government is trending toward taking a more influential role in our lives. While the government is constitutionally restricted from infringing on our religious beliefs, some contend that the modern day green movement looks a great deal like a religious movement. And it is a movement with momentum. Government’s giant tentacles are anchored in this green movement and the 1000 LB gorilla brings with it some influence on minds and behavior and purses nationwide.

Still many Americans resist having a government that seems so intent on influencing it’s citizenry; they don’t trust the motive. As we just saw with the kick off of the “clunkers for cash” program, legislate behavior with incentives and people will change their behavior. “Clunkers for cash” was part of the Green movement and billions of dollars were injected. But legislating behavior is not always so predictable or easy. Essentially, within one week, the government burned through it’s cash due to the overwhelming response to the injection of government funds.
We do not see our role as one of influence but instead to lay out the discussion points so we make sure the debate is focused on reason and not fervor. Our home page is green and clean, yet not a billboard for opinions on where our earth is heading. At Wholesalebulbs.net, we admire nature and seek to preserve it; but we seek a deeper understanding on “where the money is” behind those arguments that may rely too much on scare tactics and not enough on facts and evidence. We look up before we believe the sky is falling.

The reality of global warming is debatable to some and absolute to others and both sides can be very emotional when confronted with the opposing viewpoints. We are so fragmented in our society today that we at Wholesalebulbs.net wonder in today’s American culture whether we can move toward conserving resources, lowering energy costs and using that personal or corporate savings toward improving our economic lives without necessarily taking sides on the global warming argument? To some, purchasing an energy efficient light bulb might feel a bit like purchasing a Toyota Prius. Many don’t want to make a statement with what they drive and pay extra to do so. In some minds, purchasing a compact fluorescent light bulb might feel very similar to buying that Prius. It may stand for something more than just saving energy. To some, it might feel like one is taking sides for all to see on the global warming debate.

And there is a third party that has sat on the global warming sidelines not sure what side they take. Perhaps we at www.wholesalebulbs.net can help all of you within our education section dedicated to presenting the facts on energy efficiency. But no matter your stance on what role government should play in our daily lives, it is hard to deny that energy savings is being pushed by some corporate behemoths in our world today.

Recently, Wal Mart announced it would be evaluating all 100,000 of its suppliers based on their commitment to sustainability. These Wal Mart suppliers will be asked whether they track their water use, greenhouse gas emissions and the social responsibility of their own vendors. Wholesalebulbs.net is based in Wisconsin. In our state, we are home to some large companies such as Kohl’s Corp, Johnson Controls and Quad Graphics who are also committed to Green. They all recognize that there is profit in the details of sustainability. They have learned that reducing waste and energy and water use saves on operating costs year after year. Many traffic signals are converting to LED bulbs; therefore saving on energy bills. Cities and towns are recycling asphalt during road resurfacing projects. Big companies are working with smaller companies as mentors as these large companies have learned over the last 4
or 5 years how to effectively lower costs and have the ability to teach smaller companies. Quad graphics has reduced its carbon footprint by 19% over the last five years through lower energy use.
At Wholesalebulbs.net, we believe in simplifying what might appear complicated. Our home page is cleaner and less cluttered than our competition; and our mission is clear as well. We will serve you the consumer as a supplier of energy efficient education and products without the blind rant about whether the earth is warming or not! We will provide it with truthfulness and simplicity. Let’s give it a try, shall we?
Sustainability is about efficiency, maximizing your output and reducing your consumption of resources and your generation of waste. We will leave all the why’s to you. But we know that for many of you, saving money long term is one strong incentive. As consumers, we may learn something from the direction of some of these large companies. One thing they will teach you right from the start is that your upfront costs may increase a bit for energy savings; but the level of dollar savings on the backside will offset all of that near term cost and more.
